Pre-Event Planning! Halloween Launch

Hello,

Below is a draft of thoughts I’d like to share about a public art stunt to raise money for medical expenses to save my life.

I have osteo-necrosis (death) of the jaw bone.It is a rare but potentially deadly condition in which the jawbone disintegrates. This can lead to the jawbone poking through the gums, and more bone death due to a lack of blood flow to the exposed area. These changes can eventually result in the collapse and the destruction of the bone structure and spread to other parts of the body. (That is starting to happen now.)

Without dental intervention the fatigue and bone pain throughout her whole body will increase, eventually activities like speaking and eating will become more challenging. (And more difficult and expensive to treat; Google zygomatic implant!)

I need to raise $20,000 by December 16th for dental surgery and post-op care. Given that I am uninsured for this condition due to insufficiency with our dental, medical and insurance paradigm in the US; —->   I have no choice but to ask for the kindness of strangers.

To find those kind strangers, I plan to adorn myself with art typical of Dia de los Muertos and hand out marigolds with a note attached.  I can be found between Halloween and Dia de los Muertos in San Francisco and Marin.

Donations of ANY amount matters ALOT. It also sends a message of hope and solidarity to me and others living with similar health concerns.

I hope by sharing my journey that what you learn from me could dramatically improve the quality and longevity of life for someone you know. Knowing 20 years ago what I know now about health would have led to a COMPLETELY different life with ALOT more options on the menu!

If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this campaign with your social network and/or the news media to create a timely feature story. The more people who know about my story, the closer and faster I can get to my goal, so I can focus on healing and less time on public outreach.

If you know anyone from the press that would like to cover her story when Kimberly is doing the Dia De Los Muertos campaign (10/31-11/2) please text 415-299-0093. (Emails will not be seen on Thursday or Saturday)

It would be so wonderful if this phase of my life that I am openly sharing with the world can be an enriching experience in which we all can have gratitude that “it” happened.

Thank you for taking a moment to visit.

Wishing you well,
Kimberly (KC)

Pre-Event Info

This public art stunt will occur in SF and Marin next Thursday to Sunday, with preparations starting now with the artist who will be painting my face.

This is my starting point (not my happiest of faces!):

Pause for a little levity:

I liked the jawbone.  Not necessarily trying to fill the cheekbone with color because I think that would be too much:

I was going to do a hat, but because I am prone to headaches I don’t want to commit to that.  Plus it would mess up makeup.  I do like the makeup from the nose up:

So I’m going to do a scarf and try to make a piece that can easily hold flowers with the scarf.  Colors of flowers yet unknown.  The two tone of yellow and red is a nice with simple art.  I don’t think that’s the look we are going for, but I thought it was a sweet image.

So we discussed that the jawbone is a central focal point….  It is worth sharing this idea to.  I don’t care for the forehead treatment.  I do like the pointed flower on the chin, but the previous jaw, likely featuring a marigold is more my jam:

We talked about doing a treatment which highlight that I am dealing with a hidden injury.  Not sure what ideas you had in mind, but here’s some ideas I found:

Without dental intervention the fatigue and bone pain throughout her whole body will increase, eventually activities like speaking and eating will become more challenging. (And more difficult and expensive to treat requiring a zygomatic implant!)  Here’s what that looks like:

This is a very sad situation to have to face and I’m being as brave and optimistic as possible.  But at times I want to cry and hide from the world.  So some tears seem appropriate and I have some small glitter ones (no picture available)

I looked at half and half images to convey the hidden injury, but I have never seen one pulled off very well.  Here’s a couple snaps:

I thought it was interesting how emotion was conveyed here.  This is certainly my sentiments:

This one made me pause because I am wondering how I want to do the neck treatment.  This is a unique one.  Love to know your ideas for this part since I’m wearing a back long sleeved top with a plunging collar line.

Don’t know if we will want the temporary tattoos I ordered. Sugar Skull Face (1) (2)  Of note, I have a sweet basket for carrying the flowers and I ordered some skeleton gloves.

For my friends who may be following the process or want to catch up, I will show them the above so the can “witness” the beginning of this fundraiser process.

For people looking for an artist, such as the one that is helping me, please give Chrissy a call.  She is very skilled and I’m sure people in the Burning Man crowd are going to love her!  https://www.fantasyfacesbychrissy.com

Thanks for your interest.  Hope this is a great journey we are about to share together!
